West Virginia Secures Funding for Health Services, Economic Development, Infrastructure Projects and Research: An Insight into Federal Grants

West Virginia is set to receive resources from various federal agencies to support projects in the state. These funds are aimed at improving health services, promoting economic development, enhancing infrastructure, supporting academic and defense research, improving parks and energy projects.

One of the grants announced is $1,799,114 in Health and Human Services (HHS) Health Center Cluster funding for WomenCare, Inc., located in Scott Depot. Additionally, other area agencies received HHS funding including the Southwestern Community Action Council, Inc. in Huntington which received $8,465,926 in HHS Head Start funding; Valley Health Systems, Inc. in Huntington which received $7,678,870 in HHS Health Center Cluster funding; and the West Virginia Department of Health and Humans Resources in Charleston which received $1,229,006 in HHS Centers for Disease and Prevention National Center for Chronic Diseases Prevention and Health funding.

Capito also secured $500,000 in Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) funding for Marshall University’s Appalachian Cybersecurity Training, Innovation, and Opportunity Network (Appalachian ACTION). Furthermore, $240,000 in Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration (EDA) funding was secured for the Mason County Development Authority for its Disaster Recovery Strategic Plan for West Virginia.
