As the West Nile virus continues to spread throughout the country, 153 people have been diagnosed with Nile fever and 11 people have died. Concerns are mounting as infected mosquitoes have been found in the south of the country, potentially putting at least 300 individuals at risk, half of whom may not show symptoms.
Mosquitoes carrying the West Nile virus have been found in various regions across the country, including Eilat, Aylet Regional Council, and the center of Israel. Several hospitals are currently treating patients for West Nile fever, with some requiring critical care due to neurological complications and brain damage caused by the virus.
Treatment options for West Nile fever include experimental use of interferon, which has shown promise in fighting off the virus. However, there is currently no vaccine available for humans against West Nile virus. Preventative measures such as using mosquito repellents, window nets, and reporting mosquito clusters are crucial in controlling its spread.
Patients with weakened immune systems, infants, and the elderly are at higher risk of experiencing severe symptoms from this disease. Warning signs that require immediate medical attention after a mosquito bite include prolonged fever, vomiting, decreased urination
