West-MEC and Grand Canyon University: A Partnership for Efficient Education and Career Advancement

West-MEC teams up with GCU to offer applied science coursework

West-MEC, a career and technical education public school district based in Glendale with its headquarters in the West Valley, has recently formed a new partnership with Grand Canyon University (GCU). This collaboration aims to support students interested in pursuing higher education and obtaining a bachelor of applied science degree.

Through this partnership, GCU will consider eligible dual enrollment coursework and certifications earned by West-MEC program completers. This will provide students with a specialized pathway to help them accelerate their college career and potentially reduce the time needed to complete their bachelor’s degree.

West-MEC Superintendent Scott Spurgeon explained that the goal of career and technical education (CTE) is to offer students a more efficient route to continuing education by providing unique career pathways. The partnership with GCU will enable students to advance their education, develop career-related skills, and expand their professional networks.

In addition to its partnership with GCU, West-MEC has long-standing relationships with Northern Arizona University, Arizona State University, Universal Technical Institute, and various Maricopa Community Colleges. These collaborations provide dual enrollment programs to West-MEC students, allowing them to pursue accelerated pathways to post-secondary education.

West-MEC serves over 45,000 students from 49 high schools across an extensive area of 3,800 square miles in the northern and western regions of the Phoenix Metropolitan area. The central campus of West-MEC is located at 6997 N Glen Harbor Blvd., Glendale.
