Wayzata High School’s Dominance in Dance Team Competition: A Legacy that Continues to Shine

Wayzata Returns Strong: Named All-Metro Sports Award Dance Team of the Year

Minnesota has a rich history of dance team competition, marked by the dominance of Wayzata High School. With several standout moments solidifying their legacy, the Trojans have been a force to be reckoned with in the competitive dance world for decades.

Wayzata’s success began in 1975 when high school dance competition first started in Minnesota. They quickly rose to prominence, securing wins in 1978 and 1980 when there was only one division instead of the current two. After a brief drought, Wayzata returned to the winner’s circle in mid-February of 2024, claiming the jazz title and finishing as runners-up in high kick. This resurgence earned them the title of All-Metro Sports Awards Dance Team of the Year for that year.

Their impressive legacy continued in 2024 as they won their eighth Class 3A jazz title and 13th championship overall. Head coach Alyse Eichorst expressed pride in her team’s hard work, dedication, and performance after the state championships. The Trojans’ impressive legacy has left an indelible mark on the history of dance team competition in Minnesota, cementing their place as one of the top teams in the state.
