Warriors Face Uncertain Future as Klay Thompson Considers Leaving

According to reports, Warriors anticipate Klay Thompson leaving in free agency

According to a report from The Athletic, it is unlikely that Klay Thompson will re-sign with the Golden State Warriors when NBA free agency begins on Sunday. Thompson has been a member of the Warriors since the start of his NBA career in 2011, when he was drafted as the No. 11 overall pick in the first round. Over his 11 seasons with the team, Thompson has won four championships and has been selected as an All-Star five times, with his most recent selection coming in 2019.

In 2019, the Warriors signed Thompson to a five-year, $189.9 million dollar deal after he suffered a torn ACL in the NBA Finals earlier that year. However, due to injuries, Thompson missed the next two seasons and only appeared in 77 games during his last season, averaging 17.9 points per game with 14 of those appearances coming off the bench. This was the first time since his rookie year that Thompson had come off the bench in the NBA.

If Thompson decides not to re-sign with the Warriors, it will be a significant loss for the team as he is considered one of their top players and a key member of their championship teams. It remains to be seen what Thompson’s future holds and where he will play next season.
