Recently, Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr has made two significant additions to his coaching staff. Veteran coach Terry Stotts and former NBA All-Star player Jerry Stackhouse have joined the team, and they are expected to take their places on the front bench alongside Kris Weems.
Stotts, 66, is an experienced coach who brings 13 years of head-coaching experience with him. He most recently coached the Portland Trail Blazers before returning to coaching as an assistant with the Milwaukee Bucks last summer after a two-year absence from the NBA. On the other hand, Stackhouse, 49, is a former All-Star player who transitioned into coaching after retiring in 2013.
The addition of Stotts and Stackhouse led to Bruce “Q” Fraser moving back to the second bench after spending three seasons on the front bench. Fraser’s spot on the staff was created by the sudden passing of assistant Dejan “Deki” Milojević in February. Milojević was one of the assistants on the backbench and worked mostly with the team’s big men.
Kerr originally did not plan on making significant changes to his staff; however, with Kenny Atkinson’s departure, he decided to bring in coaches with previous head-coaching experience. With Stotts’ experience and Stackhouse’s strong presence, Warriors’ coaching staff is expected to be stronger next season.
