Walmart Health Clinics and Telehealth Service Shuts Down Due to Unsustainable Business Model: What This Means for Patients

Walmart will close its health clinics and telehealth services on Friday

In 2019, Walmart launched its health clinic and telehealth service as an effort to expand its offerings beyond just retail. However, the company has recently announced the closure of its 51 Walmart Health locations across five states, including 23 stores in Florida, on April 30. The reason behind this decision was an unsustainable business model.

Walmart faced several challenges during the operation of its health clinics and telehealth service. One of these challenges was with insurance reimbursement, which contributed to the decision to shut down these services. As a result, the company recommended that patients search for new providers using platforms like ZocDoc and Healthgrades.

Although the health clinics and telehealth service have closed, Walmart’s pharmacies and vision centers remain open to serve customers. The company’s decision to shut down the health offerings was made in recognition of the challenges faced and the lack of a sustainable business model.
