The Ag program at WACO High School has experienced rapid growth in the past three years, with enrollment reaching 135 students. This success can be attributed to the hiring of Agriculture Instructor and FFA Advisor, Ethan Fetzer, in 2021. Under his guidance, students have opportunities for classroom instruction in plant science, animal science, and mechanics. Additionally, they are able to participate in the National FFA Organization and engage in Supervised Ag Experiences (SAE) projects.
To further enhance the learning experience for WACO Ag/FFA students, Eichelberger Farms has announced plans to construct a new Agricultural Science Center. The facility will include two classrooms, two locker rooms, a kitchen, specialized rooms for rabbits, poultry, and swine, pens for large animals, as well as a greenhouse. A conference room will also be available for meetings with community partners who provide real-world experience to students.
The goal of the new learning center is to provide work-related opportunities for students that are not typically found in a school setting. With industry-standard lab spaces and experiences, students will be able to explore various aspects of agriculture and make informed decisions about their post-graduation career paths. Construction of the facility is planned to begin either in fall 2024 or spring 2025 on the current High School campus in Wayland.
