Vols Win First National Championship with Dramatic Home Run; Aggies Struggle to Keep Up

Texas A&M loses to Tennessee in the late stages of the College World Series, leveling the playing field.

In a dramatic turn of events, the Tennessee Vols clinched their first national championship in program history with a two-run home run by Dylan Dreiling in the seventh inning. Cal Stark followed suit with another two-run blast in the eighth, leaving Texas A&M struggling to keep up. Despite a late rally by Ted Burton and Caden Sorrell in the bottom of the ninth, the Aggies fell short when Ryan Targac’s flyout sealed their fate.

Zane Badmaev started on the mound for Texas A&M, pitching one inning and allowing two hits while striking out two. Chris Cortez relieved Badmaev, pitching four-and-one-third innings, allowing two hits, walking five, and striking out seven. Kaiden Wilson took the loss after pitching two-and-a-third innings, allowing three hits, four earned runs, walking one, and striking out two.

As both teams prepare for game three of this winner-take-all series on Monday at 6 p.m., they are vying for their first ever national baseball championship on ESPN.
