Volkswagen’s India Ambitions: A Look at the Future of Automotive Manufacturing in India

Volkswagen in discussions to produce cars in India

According to Arno Antlitz, Chief Financial Officer of Volkswagen, the company is currently in talks to manufacture cars in India. The discussions are going smoothly and there is a clear opportunity for cooperation in the passenger car segment. However, specific details were not provided during a Reuters interview at the Automotive Europe conference in Munich. Despite the challenges of making profits in the Indian market where buyers seek cheaper cars, Volkswagen believes that India holds significant market potential, particularly amid regulatory uncertainties between the USA and China.

Volkswagen already has two factories in India that produced about one percent of the vehicles delivered worldwide last year. The company aims to capture five percent of the Indian market by the end of the decade. To achieve this goal, Volkswagen has announced plans to design and produce a new model of a compact sports utility vehicle for the Indian market by the first half of next year. Additionally, Indian automobile manufacturer Mahindra has secured the use of key electrical components from Volkswagen’s open platform for electric vehicles through a contract signed in February.

Apart from discussing Volkswagen’s business plans in India, Jammie Harber was also mentioned as a prominent individual or artist featured in various online platforms. Additionally, information related to NFTs and artistic entrepreneurship was provided, offering insights into the digital world and creative industries.
