Viridien Selected to Conduct High-Density Onshore Seismic Imaging for Groupement Berkine in Eastern Algeria

The Groupement Berkine, a joint venture between Sonatrach, Occidental Petroleum, and other international partners, has chosen Viridien to conduct seismic imaging of a 3400 km2 high-density onshore data set in blocks B404a and B208 of the Berkine Basin in Eastern Algeria. The goal of the project is to provide new subsurface insights and enhance the resolution of the target area’s thin and faulted geology.

For this project, an expert team of scientists at Viridien’s advanced Subsurface Imaging center in France will utilize an advanced imaging workflow to analyze the dataset. Drawing on their experience with large and ultra-dense land seismic surveys in the Middle East, they aim to sharpen the resolution of the geological structures in the target area. Peter Whiting, EVP of Geoscience at Viridien, highlighted the company’s expertise in imaging technology and high-performance computing capabilities as key factors in their selection for this project.

Viridien’s long history in Algeria dates back to the 1950s, along with their deep knowledge about Hassi Messaoud Basin’s geological features. This position makes them a preferred partner for delivering high-quality subsurface images that support critical field development decisions.
