As a true freshman, Taylor played a crucial role in Virginia Tech’s 2007 ACC Championship game victory over No. 12 Boston College. In the following year, he took charge of the offense and led the Hokies to another conference championship, giving them back-to-back ACC titles. With Taylor at quarterback, the Hokies defeated No. 18 Boston College in Tampa, Fla., marking their second of three ranked wins in 2008.

Taylor’s passing game continued to improve in 2009 as he threw for 2,311 yards and 13 touchdowns. The Hokies ended another successful season with a win over Tennessee in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl, where Taylor passed for 209 yards and rushed for a touchdown. His remarkable career culminated in a standout 2010 campaign where he set new career highs in passing yards (2,473) and passing touchdowns (24). Following an slow start with two losses, the Hokies went on to win eleven straight games before clinching the ACC Championship title with a decisive win over No. 20 Florida State. Taylor was named MVP of the game after passing for three scores and rushing for one.

At his retirement from Virginia Tech, Taylor boasted an impressive record of 34-8 as a starting quarterback, which remains the most significant achievement by any Hokie quarterback at Virginia Tech. He is also considered Tech’s second all-time leading passer with 7,017 yards and ranks fifteenth all time in rushing yards with 2,196.
