VB Schools provides families with health and wellness resources

Virginia Beach Public Schools recently hosted a family and student wellness expo, bringing together families and local resources to promote health and well-being in the community. The event took place at Bayside High School Track and Field, where dozens of booths were set up to provide information on various topics from behavioral health to healthy meals.

Organizers highlighted the crucial role that community organizations and local agencies play in promoting student wellness, emphasizing the importance of connecting families with the resources they need. Parents had the opportunity to inquire about summer resources and programs, including lunch programs for children who rely on school meals.

Robert Jamison, the executive director of the Offices of Student Support Services, shared that the schools are planning to host summer learning camps and provide meals for students in need. These programs will run for a week or two, offering wellness camps through the bridge program with CHKD to provide mental health support for students. Food services were also available at the expo, ensuring that students will have access to meals throughout the summer.

The expo received support from Bayside High School, who generously provided the space during their student showcase festival. This collaboration allowed for a successful event that brought together resources and information to benefit the well-being of students and families in the Virginia Beach community.
