Vikings’ Quarterback Draft Decision: Stay or Trade for the Top Pick?

Will the Vikings remain at the 11th spot?

The Vikings recently traded with the Texans to acquire the 23rd overall pick in the draft. Minnesota made this move in hopes of selecting a quarterback with their original pick (No. 11) and potentially moving up in the round. However, as the draft approaches, it remains uncertain whether they will make that move or stay put at No. 11.

Six quarterbacks are projected to be taken in the top half of the round: Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Bo Nix, J.J. McCarthy, Michael Penix Jr., and Drake Maye. If the Vikings trust that head coach Kevin O’Connell can develop any of these quarterbacks, they may choose to remain at No. 11 and see how things unfold.

However, there are risks involved in this strategy. Teams like the Bears and Jets, who pick before the Vikings, could potentially make trades with teams like the Broncos and Raiders to leapfrog Minnesota and acquire a quarterback. Additionally, there is speculation that the Vikings could benefit from an investigation into the Atlanta Falcons’ alleged tampering with Cousins, resulting in a swap of draft picks.

Ultimately, the Vikings have various options in front of them. They could decide not to draft a quarterback at all and focus on other positions with picks No. 11 and No. 23. Another option is to see how things play out in the draft and potentially select a quarterback at their current position.

If they decide to target a trade with teams like the Chargers, Giants, Titans or Falcons to secure a quarterback they covet or if they want to remain at no 11 to see what happens on draft day then it’s possible for them to do so as well.

In summary, The Vikings have many options available for them when it comes to selecting a quarterback in this year’s draft; staying put at No. 11 or moving up via trades or even not picking one at all depend on their decision making process as we approach draft day.
