On May 29, 2024, the Viking Octantis cruise ship anchored in Lake Michigan off Algoma, Wisconsin. This marks an exciting opportunity for passengers to explore the Great Lakes, which are considered one of the largest freshwater systems on Earth.
Passengers from all over the United States and even the world are on board this trip that started in Toronto, Ontario and will end in Duluth, Minnesota. The 665-foot long Viking Octantis carries about 350 passengers on this journey.
One of the stops along the way was in Algoma, where Rosemary Paladini, Executive Director of Algoma Area Chamber of Commerce talked about the economic impact of the cruise ship’s visit. Last season it generated approximately $275,000 for the local economy. Paladini highlights that passengers participate in excursions like hikes, visits to Door County and wine and beer tasting in Algoma.
