Vietnam’s Future in the Semiconductor Industry: Emphasizing AI Processing and High-Capacity Memory

Potential Trends for Vietnam’s Semiconductor Industry to Embrace

Vietnamese experts are being advised by Korean experts to focus on two major trends in the semiconductor industry: AI processing and high-speed graphics processors with high-capacity memory. Professor Park Inkyu from KAIST emphasized the importance of these areas for future development, highlighting the growing demand for miniaturized, low-power sensors with improved performance due to the increasing use of IoT and advanced sensors in various sectors.

Professor Park also highlighted the importance of semiconductor devices for AI processing and high-speed graphics processors with large memory capacity. These areas are essential for applications such as big data processing and machine learning, which are becoming increasingly popular in industries like healthcare and finance. To drive the semiconductor industry forward, Vietnam should invest in research and development in these areas.

Another Korean expert, Professor Lee Young Hee, emphasized the need for Vietnam to invest in education and training for high-quality human resources in the semiconductor industry. He suggested establishing a National Research Laboratory focusing on semiconductors to drive research, development, and training efforts. Building a strong workforce in the semiconductor industry will be crucial for Vietnam’s future growth and competitiveness.

In a separate seminar, Vietnamese experts discussed the demand for skilled engineers in the semiconductor industry and the need to enhance training programs to meet this demand. Predictions suggest that Vietnam will need thousands of engineers by 2030 to support the design, production, and packaging of semiconductor chips. Developing undergraduate and graduate training programs, establishing laboratories, and fostering international cooperation will be key to building a strong workforce in the semiconductor industry.

Overall, experts are urging Vietnam to focus on key areas such as AI processing, high-speed graphics processors
