Vietnamese Scientists Win £1 Million Prize for Innovative Animal Health Platform

Global Health Award Won by Vietnamese Scientist

A team of Vietnamese scientists recently won the £1 million Grand Prize at The Trinity Challenge, an organization dedicated to finding innovative solutions to global health challenges. Led by Dr. Phi Thi Linh Giang, Dr. Doan Dang Khoa, and Professor Nguyen Thanh Huong, the team developed the Farm2Vet virtual veterinary platform to address the growing problem of antibiotic resistance in veterinary medicine.

Farm2Vet is an online platform that connects farmers with veterinary knowledge and services to help them diagnose diseases, receive treatment advice, and provide early warnings to policymakers to prevent outbreaks and antibiotic resistance hotspots. The platform also helps farmers produce safe food by connecting them with businesses and consumers who demand quality organic products. By educating farmers on responsible antibiotic use in livestock farming, Farm2Vet aims to reduce the spread of antibiotic-resistant bacteria and improve animal welfare.

Dr. Phi Thi Linh Giang believes that Farm2Vet is just the first step towards improving the lives of millions of farmers in low- and middle-income countries and protecting global health. The project was recognized by Professor Dame Sally Davies, Chairwoman of The Trinity Challenge, for its vision and efforts in addressing the issue of antibiotic resistance.

The Trinity Challenge partnered with MIT Solve this year to focus on the challenge of antibiotic resistance. The competition aimed to encourage scientists globally to propose solutions using big data to minimize the impact of antibiotic resistance. This collaboration reflects a commitment among organizations worldwide to address pressing health challenges through innovation and collaboration.
