During a press conference today, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pham Thu Hang expressed Vietnam’s strong opposition to China’s fishing ban in the East Sea. She stated that the ban violates Vietnam’s sovereignty in the Hoang Sa archipelago and its exclusive economic zone as determined by the UNCLOS.
Vietnam has consistently advocated for respecting its sovereignty over the Hoang Sa archipelago and its waters. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has repeatedly requested that China refrain from complicating the situation and contribute to maintaining peace, stability, and order in the region.
China’s annual fishing ban, which covers four sea areas including the East Sea, East China Sea, Bohai, and Yellow Sea, has been met with criticism from Vietnam. The ban is applied from May 1 to August 16 and illegally occupies areas such as Vietnam’s Hoang Sa archipelago. Fishermen from other countries have also been subject to increased supervision by China to punish violators.
Each year, China’s fishing ban draws scrutiny and raises tensions in the region. Vietnam continues to assert its rights and sovereignty in the East Sea, calling on China to respect these boundaries and work towards a peaceful resolution of disputes.
