Vietnam: Attracting Investment and Building a Global Human Resource Center for Semiconductors.

‘Vietnam aims to establish itself as a leading center for semiconductor talent worldwide’

The semiconductor industry is booming and with it comes the need for skilled human resources. The conference “Vietnam’s semiconductor human resources in the global supply chain,” organized by Phenikaa Group in collaboration with Synopsys Corporation and Arizona State University, highlighted this issue.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha emphasized the importance of training and building a strong workforce in order to remain competitive in the industry. Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung agreed, stating that Vietnam must become a global human resource center for semiconductors. This would require attracting investment in research, design, production, packaging, and testing of chips in Vietnam.

Phenikaa Group has already taken action by establishing a center to train microchip human resources through their subsidiary Phenikaa Semiconductor Company (S-Phenikaa). They aim to train thousands of chip design engineers and technicians with international certificates to meet the industry’s needs. Additionally, they have introduced the IC design major into the regular university training program to promote research, development, and design of advanced chips.

The government is also investing heavily in building a team of high-quality human resources with expertise in semiconductor ICs through the Semiconductor Industry Development Strategy and Human Resource Training Project. Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha stressed the importance of forecasting and evaluating market demand at each stage of the semiconductor industry value chain.

In order to stay ahead of the competition, Vietnam must prioritize research and development related to semiconductor microchips. The Ministry of Science and Technology is supporting these efforts by allocating resources towards research topics related to semiconductor microcircuits and providing support for young research groups in this field. The goal is to enhance Vietnam’s capabilities in semiconductor technology and innovation.
