Many workers poisoned after lunch event

On May 28, at noon, more than 70 workers at Viet Nhat Garment Company in Nghe An’s Yen Thanh district fell ill after consuming their lunch. The meal consisted of fried silverback fish, stir-fried luffa with bean sprouts, boiled eggs, vegetable soup, and mango. Symptoms included headaches, stomachaches, numb hands, vomiting, fever, and erythema.

The workers were taken to Yen Thanh District General Hospital and Bao Son General Hospital for treatment. Medical professionals administered fluids and followed the protocol for food poisoning cases. By the evening of the same day, most of the workers were discharged from the hospital while four pregnant women were kept for observation.

Although some patients are still receiving treatment at Bao Son General Hospital, the Nghe An health sector has taken patient and food samples for testing to determine the cause of the food poisoning outbreak. As of now, there have been no results from these tests.

Viet Nhat Garment Company specializes in manufacturing and processing garments for export. The company has been operating in the industrial cluster of Yen Thanh district since 2013 and employs 1,573 workers across two factories.
