Vice-Premier Ding Xuexiang Encourages Young Scientists to Drive China’s Future

Chinese vice-premier urges the promotion of the scientific spirit

Ding Xuexiang, the Chinese Vice-Premier, highlighted the significance of fostering a culture of innovation and scientific excellence in order to establish China as a global sci-tech powerhouse. This message was conveyed during the main event of China’s 2024 National Science and Technology Week and Beijing Science and Technology Week in Beijing. Ding, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, emphasized the importance of upholding scientists’ patriotic, innovative, practical, dedicated, collaborative, and educative spirit in order to cultivate a society that respects science and encourages innovation.

During his visit to the Institute of Mechanics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Ding toured the offices where renowned scientists Qian Xuesen and Guo Yonghuai once worked. He also explored an exhibition hall dedicated to showcasing examples of scientific discovery and progress throughout history. In addition, he observed laboratory tests on the mechanical properties of materials. Reflecting on the accomplishments of previous generations of scientists who faced significant challenges while pursuing their work, Ding stressed the importance of deep patriotism and commitment to serving one’s country in order to achieve great national rejuvenation.

Ding also emphasized the crucial role that young people play in driving innovation and encouraging creativity. He encouraged elementary school students to nurture their curiosity and pursue their dreams with support from science and technology. The event was attended by Li Shulei, a member of the Political Bureau and head of the Publicity Department at CPC Central Committee. China’s 2024 National Science and Technology Week is scheduled for May 25th through June 1st, providing an opportunity for individuals across China to come together in celebration
