VfL Osnabrück in Limbo as Stadium Issues Threaten Home Games

Bremer Brück stadium closed before Schalke’s guest game by city authorities

VfL Osnabrück’s home game against FC Schalke 04 is in danger of being canceled due to structural defects in the stadium. The Lower Saxony city authorities have temporarily banned the use of the football arena, as announced by the club on Tuesday evening. The club is working to address the structural issues and hopes to be able to host the scheduled games at the Bremer Bridge as planned.

VfL has informed the German Football League (DFL) and Schalke about the stadium issues, and the DFL will make a decision on the cancellation once an official cease-and-desist order has been received. Season ticket holders and ticket buyers will be updated on the situation, but all tickets remain valid at this time.

The defects were discovered during a routine inspection last week and are related to wooden beams in the aging stadium that require immediate attention. The club is unable to use the east curve of the stadium for the upcoming games without urgent repairs. With only three games left in the season and facing relegation, VfL Osnabrück is in a difficult position.
