Venice Film Festival to Premiere Highly-Anticipated Beetlejuice Sequel: A Tim Burton Masterpiece Returns 33 Years Later

The long-awaited sequel to Tim Burton’s iconic 1988 comedy-horror hit, Beetlejuice, is set to make its world premiere at the 81st Venice International Film Festival. The film will debut on August 28 and will be screened out of competition.

Beetlejuice alums Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O’Hara are set to reunite for the sequel, along with new cast members Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci, Jenna Ortega, and Willem Dafoe. The Warner Bros. release will hit North America on September 6 and internationally on September 4.

Venice artistic director Alberto Barbera expressed his excitement for the premiere, stating that Beetlejuice is a long-awaited return of one of Tim Burton’s most iconic characters. He praised Burton for his extraordinary visionary talent and masterful realization, noting the festival’s honor and pride in hosting such a creative work.

Tim Burton himself shared his excitement about the premiere, stating that it means a lot to him to have Beetlejuice make its debut at the Venice Film Festival. Warner Bros. has a history of success at the festival, as seen with past premieres like Joker in 2019 and Dune in 2021.

The 81st Venice Film Festival will take place from August 28 to September 7, showcasing a diverse range of films and talent from around the world.
