Venezuelan Weightlifter Echandia Qualifies for Paris 2024 Olympics with Impressive Performance at World Championships

Venezuela’s Triumph: Qualifying for Paris 2024 Celebrated by Panam Sports

Venezuela is thrilled to announce that weightlifter Katherin Echandia has qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympics. On the first day of competition at the World Weightlifting Championships held in Phuket, Thailand, Echandia lifted a total of 193 kilograms, earning her sixth place in the 49 kg category. This impressive achievement guarantees her a spot in the upcoming Olympic Games.

The news from Phuket brought great excitement to Venezuela as Echandia showcased her skills on the world stage. In the snatch event, she lifted an impressive 85 kilograms, while in the clean and jerk event, she lifted a remarkable 108 kilograms. These impressive performances earned her an Olympic total of 193 kilograms and secured her sixth place in the competition.

The gold medal in the women’s 49kg category went to North Korean Ri Song Gum, who broke a record with her lifts of 97 kilograms in the snatch, 124 in the clean and jerk, and an Olympic total of 221. Chinese athletes Hou Zhihui and Jiang Huihua took home the silver and bronze medals, respectively.

In addition to securing her spot for Paris 2024, Echandia’s qualification adds to Venezuela’s growing list of Olympic qualifiers. With a total of 18 qualifiers in nine sports, Venezuela is well on its way to achieving its goal of having a strong presence at the Paris Games.
