Juan Vicente Perez Mora, the world’s oldest man, passed away at the age of 114 in Caracas, Venezuela. His death was confirmed by Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro on social media.
Perez was officially recognized as the oldest man alive in 2022, when he was 112 years and 253 days old. He was known as Tio Vicente and was a farmer from the town of El Cobre in the Andean state of Tachira. He was born on May 27, 1909, and was the ninth of 10 children. From a young age, Perez worked in agriculture with his family, assisting with sugar cane and coffee harvesting.
Perez’s legacy lives on through his large family and the impact he made in his community during his long life. Throughout his life, he served as a sheriff and resolved land and family disputes in addition to his agricultural work. Perez fathered 11 children, had 41 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
