The Vancouver Whitecaps emerged victorious over the Colorado Rapids with a 2-1 win on Saturday night. This victory marked the end of a long winless streak for the Whitecaps, who had previously lost to Sporting Kansas City.
The turning point in the game came in stoppage time when Damir Kreilach scored the second goal for Vancouver. Kreilach took a pass from Ryan Gauld and spun towards the goal, giving Vancouver the lead.
Colorado, who has struggled in recent games with two losses in three matches, conceded at least three goals in each of those games. Sebastian Berhalter scored the opening goal for Vancouver early in the second half, but Djordje Mihailovic quickly equalized for Colorado. Mihailovic has been instrumental in Colorado’s attacks and has scored a goal in back-to-back games, as well as three of his last four.
Yohei Takaoka made two saves for Vancouver, while Zack Steffen stopped one shot for Colorado. Despite their struggles, Colorado continues to be a formidable opponent and will need to regroup after another disappointing result. Meanwhile, Vancouver’s win puts them in a good position as they look to continue their winning streak.
