UWL Receives $3 Million in Donations to Expand Science Programs: Mike and Kathi McGinley Establish Endowed Professorship and Ron Rada Provides Support for River Studies Center

Two generous families donate million-dollar gifts to UWL science programs to enhance faculty opportunities

UW-La Crosse recently received two generous donations, totaling almost $3 million, to expand science programs at the college. The announcement was made by interim chancellor Betsy Morgan.

The larger of the two donations is a $1.5 million gift from Mike and Kathi McGinley, which will establish an endowed professorship at UWL. Mike, who graduated from the campus in 1982, believes that this donation will help continue valuable research programs for the benefit of students. He stated, “Kathi and I have supported students, and various student scholarships and fellowships, and we really felt that the time was now to support faculty, which in the end, supports students.”

The second donation is from former UWL faculty member Ron Rada and his wife Jane. Jane has worked at Western Tech. Their donation is to provide financial support for the staff at the university’s River Studies Center. Ron Rada is hopeful that this funding will help enhance the center’s reputation by further extending its influence beyond the academic community.

Both donations are planned to take effect a year from now at UWL with the goal of benefiting and expanding science programs at the college.
