Athlon Sports Names Traylor Top Coach in The American Conference – UTSA Athletics

UTSA Head Coach Jeff Traylor has been named the top head coach in the American Athletic Conference for the 2024 season by Athlon Sports. This selection was made by senior college football writer and editor Steve Lassan, who ranked Traylor first among the 14 head coaches in the league.

As a two-time conference Coach of the Year, Traylor has achieved great success at UTSA. In his first four seasons as head coach, he has led the Roadrunners to a 39-14 record, the highest number of wins and best winning percentage (.736) in program history. UTSA has won two conference championships, participated in four consecutive bowl games, and has been ranked in the top national polls 23 times under Traylor’s leadership.

During the last season, Traylor guided UTSA to a 9-4 record, including a 7-1 record in The American conference. The season ended with a 35-17 victory over Marshall in the 2023 Frisco Bowl, marking the school’s first bowl win.

Under Traylor’s coaching, UTSA athletes have received numerous awards and honors. He has coached seven All-Americans, three national award finalists, 83 all-conference selections, and two NFL draft picks. Additionally, the team has excelled academically, with achievements such as three College Sports Communicators Academic All-Americans, 12 Academic All-District Selections
