Utah Takes Top Spot in Big 12 Preseason Poll: Insights into Conference’s Predicted Order of Finish for the Upcoming 2024 Season

Utah leads Big 12 standings in 2024 as Colorado falls out of top 10

In a recent announcement, the Big 12 released its predicted order of finish for the upcoming 2024 season. This poll was determined by a vote from media members on Tuesday. The new conference member, Utah, emerged as the top team with 20 first-place votes and an overall point total of 906. Kansas State followed closely behind with 19 first-place votes and 889 points. Oklahoma State garnered 14 first-place votes and 829 overall points to round out the top three teams.

In addition to these top teams, other programs that received a first-place vote include Kansas (five) and Arizona (three). The Big 12 will welcome several new members in the upcoming season, including Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, and Utah. This brings the conference’s total membership to 16 in 2024, which is the largest it has ever been.

While Utah and Arizona were favored in the preseason poll, it did not show much confidence in Colorado and Arizona State’s ability to compete for a conference title in Year 1. Deion Sanders’ Buffaloes were predicted to finish in eleventh place, while Arizona State was picked to come in last place.

The Big 12 Championship Game will take place on December 7 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. This game will feature the top two teams based on their conference records. Last year, Texas defeated Oklahoma State with a final score of 49-21 to win its first outright conference title since 2009. The Longhorns went on to earn a spot in the College Football Playoff before falling to Washington in the CFP semifinals.
