USC Basketball Prepares for Big Ten Conference with Neutral-Site Games in Palm Desert

The shift to the Big Ten conference is influencing how USC coaches are structuring their nonconference schedules for the upcoming season. Both the men’s and women’s teams are scheduled to play neutral-site games in Palm Desert, California, during Thanksgiving week. The men will compete on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 28 and 29, while the women will play on Wednesday and Friday, Nov. 27 and 29. These games are located relatively close to USC’s campus, which was highlighted by the coaches when they addressed the media following the announcement of the games.

In an interview with Shad Powers of the Palm Springs Desert Sun, USC women’s basketball head coach Lindsay Gottlieb emphasized the strategic approach her team is taking in light of their new conference move. Gottlieb mentioned that they wanted to be intentional about their nonconference travel plans and chose to participate in a high-quality event that is still relatively close to home. This decision allows the team to create a holiday atmosphere while still competing at a high level.

Gottlieb also noted that participating in this tournament provides a significant opportunity for her team as they look forward to being a top-5 team next season. She mentioned JuJu Watkins as one of their top players who will be leading the charge in this tournament. Gottlieb believes that playing alongside her male counterparts adds excitement and anticipation for fans who follow both teams closely.
