Uplift Her: Addressing Health Disparities among African American Women in Ohio

Upcoming Event to Address Black Women’s Health Scheduled for Thursday

The African American Male Wellness Agency is putting the spotlight on women this week with their annual Uplift Her event in Columbus, Ohio. This event aims to address health disparities among Black women, who face increased risks of death from breast cancer, heart disease, and childbirth.

Black Americans are more likely to be uninsured compared to white Americans, which can impact access to necessary healthcare services. Additionally, studies have shown racial disparities in pain management within healthcare settings, highlighting the importance of advocating for equitable healthcare.

Taking place on Thursday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at St. Charles Prep School in Bexley, Uplift Her offers free screenings and connects women with healthcare resources. This event is a valuable opportunity for women to prioritize their health and well-being.

Statistics show that Black women are at higher risk of developing certain health conditions than their white counterparts due to factors such as socioeconomic status and systemic racism in healthcare settings. However, Uplift Her aims to address these disparities by providing access to necessary medical care and promoting self-care practices among Black women.
