The French Open will be moving networks in the U.S. after Warner Bros. Discovery closed a sports television rights deal this spring. The deal is worth $650 million over 10 years and will see the tournament broadcast on WBD’s networks, Max, and digitally on Bleacher Report. This move marks a significant change as NBC has held the rights to broadcast the French Open every year since 1983, with the exception of three years when it aired on CBS.
Despite the large sum of money involved in this deal, WBD’s pursuit of NBA broadcast rights is reportedly unaffected. The current NBA rights package expires after the 2024-25 season. While the NBA has already set up a package with Disney, Amazon, and NBCUniversal, WBD is hoping to remain in the mix for future NBA broadcast rights. Earlier this week, TNT Sports announced a deal to sublicense ESPN’s rights to broadcast first-round playoff games for the next five seasons, with plans to acquire rights to broadcast quarterfinal games starting in the 2026 season.
