The current status of women in STEM fields was explored through surveys conducted among both students and professionals across multiple disciplines, including astronomy, biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering, earth sciences, health sciences, information technology, mathematics and physics. The goal of these surveys was to collect data from a diverse range of backgrounds to identify common trends as well as unique challenges faced by women in STEM fields worldwide.
These surveys addressed important topics such as educational experiences, career advancement, work-life balance, discrimination, harassment and obstacles to leadership positions. By examining the experiences of both students and professionals, the initiative aimed to provide a comprehensive view of the obstacles and opportunities for women pursuing careers in STEM.
Researchers hope that by shedding light on the realities faced by women in STEM through these surveys will ultimately lead to creating more equitable and inclusive environments for women in these disciplines. The aim is to inform policies and practices that can help foster a more diverse and representative workforce in these important fields.
