New School of Public Health building hosts grand opening

A milestone moment took place on Thursday, April 6, 2024 at the School of Public Health as they celebrated the opening of their new home in the recently renovated Edna S. Brigham Building with great joy and pride. The occasion was marked by a ribbon cutting ceremony, with opening remarks from University leadership.

During his address, President Sandoval warmly spoke about the School’s impact in the community, emphasizing the importance of preparing students to take on leadership roles in the future of public health for Nevada and beyond. He highlighted the school’s ability to impact policy, implement systemic change, develop and evaluate health programs, provide accessible wide-scale services, and conduct innovative research.

Under Dean Akpinar-Elci’s leadership since Fall 2021, the School of Public Health has made significant strides. In her speech on Thursday, she reflected on the journey that led to this momentous occasion and expressed her gratitude for the collaborative effort that brought this shared vision to life.
