Unusual spike in electricity prices in Nordpool due to nuclear power plant maintenance

Stock electricity price will decrease by 50 cents on Monday

On Monday, the price of exchange electricity in Nordpool reached a maximum of nearly 50 cents per kilowatt hour, with the ongoing maintenance of nuclear power plants contributing to the high cost. Prices were negative for a few hours on Sunday before rising to 49.35 cents per kilowatt hour at eight o’clock on Monday.

The significant spike in prices around three cents per kilowatt hour from midnight to 5 am was followed by a drop to six cents in the morning before increasing again in the afternoon, reaching around 30 cents per kilowatt hour by eight o’clock. This price spike is unusual for this time of year and can be attributed to delayed maintenance at the Olkiluoto nuclear power plant reactors.

The average price of exchange electricity over the past 28 days was 7.51 cents per kilowatt hour, according to Sähkö.tk. Fluctuations in electricity prices can have a significant impact on consumers and the overall economy, which is why it’s crucial for energy providers and policymakers to address the factors contributing to these price spikes and work towards more stable and affordable pricing options for consumers.
