Essex teenager achieves world championship victory in BMX racing

The Briantree BMX Club recently had a successful outing at the UCI BMX World Championships in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Despite facing tough competition from over 3,000 riders from 40 countries, the club’s 11 riders rose to the challenge and achieved great results.

Among the standout performers was Freia from Halstead, Essex, who won the world title for 16-year-old girls for the fourth time. Despite facing unexpected challenges throughout the race day, Freia was determined to come out on top. She will be moving up to the Junior Elite category in 2025 and is sure to be a force to be reckoned with in future championships.

Another impressive performance came from Poppy Bishop, who finished in sixth place at the competition. Her younger sister Holly also made it to the final and secured her spot as world number seven. Coach Julian Allen praised both girls for their exceptional efforts and performance, especially considering the challenging weather conditions they faced during the event. He commended Freia for her focused and competitive approach, noting that she achieved lap times comparable to those of Junior Elite riders. With her continued dedication and talent, Freia has exciting prospects ahead of her as she transitions into higher championship classes in the future.
