Unraveling the Mystery: 28-Year-Old Woman with High Blood Pressure Diagnosed with Adrenal Tumor in Vietnam”.

Adrenal adenoma linked to chronic hypertension: a recent revelation

28-year-old Ms. Thanh had been experiencing headaches and high blood pressure for four years with no clear cause. After undergoing a general health check-up at Tam Anh General Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, it was discovered that she had an adrenal tumor. Despite taking medication regularly, her blood potassium index was low, and her blood pressure was difficult to control. This was unusual for someone her age, as high blood pressure is more common in the elderly.

Further examination revealed that Ms. Thanh had a left adrenal gland tumor measuring 1.5×1.9 cm. The tumor was located close to the spine, making it difficult to see on ultrasound. Tumors in the adrenal gland can cause excessive secretion of the hormone aldosterone, leading to conditions like hyperaldosteronism, hypokalemia, and high blood pressure.

The medical team at Tam Anh General Hospital decided to perform laparoscopic surgery to remove the adrenal tumor. The surgery was successful, and Ms. Thanh was discharged from the hospital two days later. Her blood pressure stabilized, and she no longer needed medication to control it.

Dr. Duy emphasized the importance of regular health checks to detect and treat health problems early. Young people with unexplained high blood pressure should undergo thorough screening to determine the cause and receive appropriate treatment. If left untreated, high blood pressure can lead to serious complications like heart failure, stroke, and kidney failure.
