Chronic progressive enteritis, also known as Crohn’s disease or chronic regional enteritis, is an autoimmune disease characterized by inflammation in the digestive tract. This condition can lead to serious complications such as intestinal obstruction, ulcers in the small intestine or colon, and colon cancer. While it can affect any part of the digestive tract, it is more common in the ileum, cecum, small intestine, and colon. Common symptoms include abdominal pain, diarrhea, and severe malnutrition.
In the early stages of the disease, symptoms may mimic those of other acute inflammatory gastrointestinal conditions. As the disease progresses, patients often experience severe weakness, pain, and possible complications that significantly impact their health.
