Unraveling a Genetic Health Scandal: LB Clinic, Embryologists and Profit-Driven Imports Under Investigation

Fertility Clinic in Israel Closed by Health Ministry due to Hemophilia Infection in Eggs

In the wake of an undercover investigation, the Ministry of Health has announced that it is continuing to investigate additional necessary steps in a matter involving the LB Clinic and the importing of defective eggs from Georgia. The ministry is examining the potential involvement of other parties within the limitations of the criminal investigation, with a goal of preventing any damage to public health, including patients at the clinic.

Last week, Professor David, a surgery and gynecology expert who founded the LB Clinic, came under suspicion for his alleged role in importing defective eggs. An investigation by the Tel Aviv district fraud unit over several months gathered evidence against two senior medical professionals. One is an embryologist at a private hospital chain and another is a professor who owns a private clinic for in vitro fertilization in Gush Dan. Both are suspected of importing eggs from Georgia to carry out fertilization in Israel, resulting in severe genetic diseases in some cases.

The investigation revealed that the eggs were extracted from women with hemophilia in Georgia and given to women in Israel, leading to harm and negative outcomes such as quiet births and babies born with hemophilia. This includes testimonies from affected parties, including four complainants. The police have gathered evidence suggesting that these professionals knowingly committed these acts, potentially spreading a disease.
