Mollie O’Callaghan and Ariarne Titmus both achieved remarkable results in the women’s 200m freestyle event at the Australian Olympic Trials, breaking records and making history. While Titmus set a new world record with a time of 1 minute, 52.23 seconds, O’Callaghan finished just behind her with a time of 1:52.48. Despite missing out on the gold medal by only 62 hundredths of a second, O’Callaghan expressed her satisfaction with her performance and her progress as an athlete.
Titmus, who has been training under coach Dean Boxall in Brisbane for years, was ecstatic to finally achieve a swim that reflected all of her hard work and dedication to the sport. She has now become the fastest woman in history to swim the 200m freestyle, surpassing even Katie Ledecky’s previous record in this event.
The U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials will be broadcast live on NBC Sports and Peacock from Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis in May 2021. This marks the first time that an Olympic swimming trials will be held in Indiana since 1984, and it promises to be an exciting event featuring some of the best swimmers from around the world.
