Unprecedented Challenges: Crafting Accurate Rankings in the Midst of Injuries and Roster Shuffles

Yahoo Sports’ June Rankings for Catchers

In my latest rest-of-season position rankings and top 300 for 5×5 leagues, I had to make some changes to the No. 1 overall player. With only about 120 players in the majors capable of hitting right now, especially with many of the best pitchers injured, the rankings were challenging to put together.

The Orioles have a preference for getting James McCann his catcher starts versus lefties, resulting in some overlap in the rankings. Ryan Jeffers has been performing well and could be considered the AL’s best catcher so far this season. Meanwhile, players like David Fry are overachieving, but their progress is evident. Fry’s improved strikeout-to-walk ratios suggest he could be a legitimate regular for the Guardians.

Iván Herrera ranks 10th for the short term, but his value is expected to decrease once Willson Contreras returns from a broken forearm, possibly at the beginning of the second half.
