Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS): Rome Hosts Inaugural UAS Hack Event to Enhance Cybersecurity Skills

Cybersecurity and drone technology take center stage at UAS Hack event

Rome will host the inaugural UAS Hack event this summer, from August 19-23 at the ORION at NTROPEE facility. This event, which focuses on the integration of cybersecurity and drone technology, is aimed at university-aged students and industry professionals in the unmanned aerial systems (UAS) field.

The goal of UAS Hack is to encourage collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking while addressing cybersecurity challenges in the drone industry. Assured Information Security (AIS) will be providing instruction and curriculum for the event, with AIS Chief Engineer Eric Thayer serving as a mentor for aspiring students.

Participants will receive training on evaluating UAS security, identifying potential threats, and providing feedback to vendors and manufacturers. They will also have hands-on experience with industry-related platforms to help them develop their skills and gain insight into security-related careers. The event will take place within the New York 50-mile UAS corridor, offering participants the opportunity to engage in hands-on challenges to identify vulnerabilities in drone systems and develop effective countermeasures against potential cyberattacks.

The Open-Architecture Resilient IoT for Operational Networks (ORION) ecosystem is sponsoring UAS Hack, which includes the Air Force Research Laboratory Information Directorate, AIS, Quanterion Solutions, Griffiss Institute, NYSTEC, and Cisco.
