Comparative and Multi-Method Approaches in Political Economy Research: 2024 APSA Dissertation Workshop

The 2024 APSA Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, PA will host a workshop on Comparative & Multi-Method Approaches within Political Economy Research on Wednesday, September 4. Co-leaders will guide early career researchers in exploring the use of multiple methods to study political economies on a global scale. To participate in the workshop, applicants must submit their application by Sunday, May 19, 2024.

The goal of the workshop is to help researchers enhance their understanding of key political economy questions by incorporating various methodological approaches. By triangulating different methods, scholars can develop more detailed and nuanced analyses of democratic policy, economic policy, unionization, and social policy within and across different countries. Participants are expected to use at least two methodologies in their research, though individual chapters may focus on a single method as part of a broader dissertation context.

APSA hosts both in-person and virtual dissertation workshops each year. In-person workshops take place the Wednesday before the Annual Meeting and offer a full-day platform for presenting dissertation chapters and receiving feedback from faculty members who lead discussions. Virtual workshops span three weeks during the summer and provide a similar platform for sharing and receiving input on research projects related to political economy.

In summary, the Comparative & Multi-Method Approaches within Political Economy Research workshop provides an opportunity for early career researchers to explore the use of multiple methods to study political economies on a global scale. The workshop takes place during the 2024 APSA Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, PA on Wednesday, September 4. Participants must apply by Sunday, May 19, 2024 and are expected to use at least two methodologies in their research.
