The third annual Digital Equity Day is being hosted by California State University, Northridge (CSUN) with a focus on the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education. Distinguished speakers Stephen Than and Deone Zell will discuss how AI can reshape teaching methodologies, break down barriers to learning, and ensure equal opportunities for all students. Additionally, Dr. Sheba Lo will address the impact of AI on race, culture, and accessibility, urging people to confront biases embedded within technology.
CSUN is also showcasing student-led projects using AI to address campus challenges through the CSUN AI Jam 2024 competition. The competition will feature student teams who have worked to refine their AI-powered solutions to tackle real-world challenges on the CSUN campus. The 3rd place winners, Alberto Rubalcava and Alberto Sandoval, designed “Course Compass” to help students navigate their academic journey with clear guidance. The 2nd place winners, Conner Nehru Juman and Cameel Emily Juman, developed “MatBot by Chatty Matty” to solve scheduling and advising issues. Finally, the 1st place winners, Luis Olmos, Victoria Miteva, and Vaishnavi Sen created an “AI Academic Course Planning Program.”
These student-led teams are embodying CSUN’s commitment to innovation as they work towards creating solutions that can make a positive impact on the university community.
