Unlocking Animal Science Research: AAS Goes Fully Open Access

The American Registry of Professional Animal Scientists (ARPAS) and Elsevier have announced that Applied Animal Science (AAS) has transitioned to a 100% gold open access publishing model since January. This means that researchers, students, and all animal science professionals now have free access to the wealth of knowledge within the journal’s extensive archive from continuous publication since 1985.

AAS has achieved a significant milestone by converting its entire back catalog of articles to open access, in addition to new articles. This move is in line with the growing movement toward increased accessibility of scientific research, which promotes knowledge sharing, fosters collaboration, and ultimately accelerates advancements in the field of animal science.

David K. Beede, PhD, Editor-in-Chief of AAS, highlighted the importance of this move, stating that it is a tremendous step forward for the journal. Making the entire back catalog freely available ensures that critical research on animal production, welfare, and health reaches a wider audience and has a greater impact. Readers interested in exploring the newly available articles can find all past issues at appliedanimalscience.org/issues or at sciencedirect.com/journal/applied-animal-science/issues.

For more information, answers to frequently asked questions, and submission guidelines, researchers can visit the Applied Animal Science website at www.appliedanimalscience.org.
