Dr. Joseph M. Hoedel: Inspiring Greatness in Sports Role Models

In this edition of In Black America, host John L. Hanson Jr. interviews Dr. Joseph M. Hoedel, CEO of Character Development and Leadership, an education-based curriculum company, and author of the Sports Role Models book series.

Hoedel’s three-part book series highlights 30 extraordinary sports figures who have had significant impacts on American culture beyond their chosen sports. Each chapter features a short, engaging story about an athlete or coach who exemplifies positive traits such as courage, integrity, and leadership – qualities that contributed to their success both on and off the playing field.

In addition to his work as an author, Hoedel has also created two educational programs that are used in more than 3,500 middle and high schools across the country. Each chapter of the book includes a story about an athlete or coach who embodies a positive character trait, from well-known sports heroes like Michael Jordan to lesser-known athletes like Erik Weihenmayer.

Through his work with Character Development and Leadership and his writing in the Sports Role Models book series, Hoedel is helping young people develop important life skills through education and role modeling.
