With the 2024 season fast approaching, the Chargers are preparing to revamp their running back room. Gus Edwards and J.K. Dobbins will be taking over from Austin Ekeler, who has been a key player for the team in recent years.
According to CBS Sports’ Tyler Sullivan, who ranked every running back room by tiers, the Chargers’ running back group is still considered a work in progress. However, I believe that both Edwards and Dobbins bring valuable skills and experience to the Chargers’ backfield.
Edwards, coming off a strong season with 13 touchdowns, is a proven player who can contribute significantly to the team’s success this season. Dobbins, despite injury setbacks, has the talent and potential to make an impact if he stays healthy. Both players are familiar with the offensive system run by Greg Roman, having played under him in Baltimore. Their complementary skill sets and familiarity with the playbook make them an ideal duo for a successful rushing attack this season.
Furthermore, rookie Kimani Vidal should not be overlooked. Vidal is a highly productive player at Troy who brings a combination of explosiveness, vision, contact balance, lateral agility, and versatility in the passing game. His skills suggest that he could make an early impact in his professional career and contribute to the Chargers’ running back rotation.
