The 2nd Annual Hope Walk at Aswaubenon High School brought the community together to support mental health and suicide prevention. Despite the rain, students gathered in the school’s gym to engage in various activities like origami, inspirational art, and filling jars with colorful sand.
The event was part of the school’s Hope Squad program, which aims to raise awareness about mental health issues and provide support to students in need. Joy Vanlaanen, an adviser with the Hope Squad, expressed the importance of coming together as a community to address mental health struggles. The squad has been training students since 2020 and has over 100 members trained in mental health and suicide prevention techniques.
The Hope Walk was an opportunity for students to show their support for mental health awareness while engaging in thoughtful activities to promote positivity and well-being. Overall, it was a meaningful and impactful event that highlighted the importance of addressing mental health issues head-on.
