Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Summit Hosted in Chapel Hill, North Carolina

In an effort to address the growing issue of suicide and mental health concerns in North Carolina, leaders from across the state gathered at the UNC Friday Center in Chapel Hill on Friday. The summit, which was organized by NCDHHS, focused on sharing resources and collaborating to support struggling communities.

Suicide is a significant concern in North Carolina, with youth between the ages of 10 to 34 being particularly vulnerable. According to NCDHHS, suicide is the second leading cause of death for youth ages 10 to 18 and the third leading cause of death for those ages 19 to 34. This highlights the urgent need for leaders to come together and take action to prevent this tragic occurrence.

The summit included discussions on North Carolina’s suicide prevention plan, national suicide prevention resources, and the progress that has been made so far in addressing this issue. The goal was to build connections among leaders and enhance their efforts towards preventing suicide in the state.

The meeting began at 1:19 PM and was scheduled to continue until 6:00 PM. This summit provided an opportunity for leaders from all backgrounds to come together, share ideas, and work towards a common goal of preventing suicide and supporting mental health in North Carolina.
