Uniting for a Healthier Tomorrow: El Paso Celebrates National Public Health Week

El Paso’s Department of Public Health (DPH) is marking National Public Health Week from April 1-7 with a weeklong celebration aimed at educating the community, recognizing the contributions of public health, and highlighting important issues for improving our nation’s health. This year’s theme, “Protecting, Connecting and Thriving: We Are All Public Health,” emphasizes the importance of each individual playing a role in the community’s and the planet’s health.

Throughout the week, the DPH will host various events to engage the community in discussions and activities related to public health issues and how individuals can contribute to improving overall health. The events include walks across El Paso to promote “Healthy Neighborhoods,” educational topics for senior citizens at the Fabens Senior Center, a Sexual Reproductive Health presentation at the Pride Center, and an Emergency Preparedness Carnival at Armijo Library.

The Doggie Walk at Joey Barraza and Vino Memorial Park and Glow Walk at Vista del Valle Park are great examples of how individuals can come together to promote biodiversity and ecosystem balance while encouraging physical activity. The Franklin Mountains Trail Clean Up on Wednesday is another opportunity for people to get involved in their community while also promoting a healthy environment.

National Public Health Week provides an excellent opportunity for individuals to learn more about public health issues and how they can make a difference in their own lives as well as their communities.
